Volunteer

The CHERP LGP volunteer program is a rewarding opportunity to be a part of a community effort to build the world’s first nonprofit solar panel factory! All volunteer roles at CHERP contribute to cleaner communities while addressing environmental justice and stimulating our local economy. 

 

CHERP recruits volunteers to serve both in a hands-on capacity right on the factory floor through its Factory Volunteer program, on the job Installation Volunteers and out in the local community through its Community Volunteer program. Long-term and short-term volunteer roles are needed and training is provided for all volunteer roles. 

 

Prospective volunteers can apply by completing the online application at least one month prior to their desired start date. Please read job descriptions thoroughly.

Volunteer Positions

Factory - Machine Volunteers

Positions:

  • Laminator

  • Cut & Layer Eva/Backsheet

  • Laser Scriber

Factory Volunteers are the “hands-on” heroes who support CHERP LGP in the physical manufacturing and maintenance of the solar panel factory. Factory volunteers consist of Machinery Volunteers & Operations Volunteers. Factory volunteers shifts are available in 4-hour, 8-hour or week-long shifts.

 

Machinery Volunteers complete a variety of tasks all of which include the operation of heavy machinery critical to the physical production of solar panels. Experience with this machinery is appreciated but not required. Machinery volunteers will work on one, or more, of the following: 

Factory - Operations Volunteers

Positions:

  • Logistics Assistant

  • Inventory Assistant

  • Janitorial Assistant

Factory Volunteers are the “hands-on” heroes who support CHERP LGP in the physical manufacturing and maintenance of the solar panel factory. Factory volunteers consist of Machinery Volunteers & Operations Volunteers. Factory volunteers shifts are available in 4-hour, 8-hour or week-long shifts.

Operations Volunteers are the backbone of the factory floor, ensuring the logistics, inventory and janitorial duties are carried out so that the factory continues to operate safely and efficiently. Factory operations volunteers will work in one, or more, of the following capacities: 

Solar Panel Installation Volunteers

Positions:

  • Solar Panel Installations

Solar Panel Installation Volunteers are present at the point of delivery to our deserving community partners; directly installing the solar panel systems on roofs and at solar projects in the community. Solar Panel Installation volunteers are required to go through an in-depth certification training program with CHERP-LGP and require a six-month minimum commitment

Community Volunteers

Positions:

  • Board of Advisors Member 

  • Event Planner

  • Fundraiser

  • Community Outreach

Community Volunteers are the critical leaders who execute on a variety of programmatic, strategic, financial and partnership opportunities that leverage the collective expertise of our community. Community volunteers work in the following capacities:
